I've loved being home. My team and I have been busy this summer so I hope you'll indulge me in sending a longer email than usual. I head back to Washington next week but it's been great seeing so many of you during this August work period.

I enjoyed meeting many of you at the Medina County Fair to talk about what Congress can do to bring down energy prices. It was a time of great food, good fun, and awesome entertainment.

I visited with the incredible staff at The Children's Center of Medina County who work every day to advocate for children and families in our region experiencing abuse. I was able to discuss what Congress can do to help kids in need. It was a pleasure touring their facilities in Medina and getting to hear from leadership and staff who make such a positive impact in our communities!

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History educates and inspires thousands of residents and visitors in Northeast Ohio. This August I got to meet with the museum's leadership, tour the recently renovated facilities, and talk about federal funding for museums.

Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative serves about 16,000 consumers in Ashland, Huron, Lorain, Medina, and Wayne counties and creates good jobs for Ohioans. It was great to check out the new facility in Spencer and talk with CEO and President Ed VanHoose about federal legislation that’s negatively impacting their services.

It was a pleasure joining City of Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter, Kevin Kussmaul, Parma City Councilman Ward 6, State Representative Sean P Brennan, and Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District for the Upper Ridgewood Basin Improvement Dedication in Parma. This basin is a great solution to reduce flooding and will provide a beautiful outdoor space for the community to enjoy! I enjoyed talking with constituents about bringing federal funds back to Ohio to address critical infrastructure needs.

I had a great time at the Pokrova Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church’s Ukrainian Festival in Parma and enjoyed talking with constituents about foreign aid appropriations, enjoying traditions and festivities, and hearing what’s on the minds of people from across the area. Thanks for letting me join and for the wonderful Ukrainian-American hospitality!

This summer I had the pleasure of meeting with members of our Amish community in Wayne and Holmes Counties. I visited Behalt, the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center in Holmes County. I appreciated hearing the thoughts and federal legislative priorities of our Amish community.

I had a great time at the 101st Holmes County Fair. The fair is an awesome summer event in our region, and I enjoyed talking with many of you about government funding, energy policy, how to get help when dealing with the VA.

American Electric Power employs nearly 16,000 people and provides power to 5.6 million people in 11 states. I got to meet with representatives from AEP Ohio & American Clean Power Association to tour some of their facilities and hear the concerns about the EPA’s proposed “power plant" rule. I cosponsored a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to overturn the EPA “power plant” rule.

After the severe storms earlier this summer, I joined Rocky River Mayor Bobst to meet and thank utility and municipal workers who came from around the state and country to help get the power back on. Along with Rep. Sykes, Rep. Brown, and Rep. Joyce, I sent a letter Governor DeWine asking him to declare a state of emergency and to seek FEMA assistance.

No one should go hungry. I was happy to join a roundtable discussion with Greater Cleveland Food Bank to hear about their work fighting hunger in Northeast Ohio and learn more about federal nutrition programs. Thank you for having me and for all you do in our community.

I got to visit Valor Acres in The City of Brecksville Ohio with Mayor Daryl Kingston and his team to check out the development of the Valor Acres project and to discuss community project funding. Sitting on nearly 200 acres of land, Valor Acres is a significant step in the development of Brecksville and will include the new Sherwin-Williams R&D center, office space, apartments and condominiums, a hotel, retail, and entertainment.

Sherwin-Williams employs approximately 4,400 people in Northeast Ohio. I got to visit the new R&D project site in Brecksville and hear how it will bring together hundreds of employees together to collaborate and innovate. I was able to talk to constituents about what Congress can do to create more jobs.

Medina County Economic Development Corporation provides advocacy and support for local businesses and assists in developing new opportunities. I shared updates about my work in Congress with Executive Director Bethany Dentler and members of the local business community and heard more from them about Medina’s needs. I look forward to continuing to work with local leaders to promote federal policies that ensure a strong economy in Medina County!

Jennings Northeast Ohio was founded in 1942 and provides residence and care to over 1,500 older adults in Northeast Ohio. They employ over 400 people at their four facilities in Brecksville, Chardon, Garfield Heights, and Shaker Heights, creating jobs for Ohioans while providing excellent care. It was a pleasure to tour their facility in Brecksville with CEO Allison Salopeck and Jennings leadership to learn more about what Congress can do for seniors in our community!

The National Association of Manufacturers is comprised of about 14,000 companies, of which 90% are small and medium-sized manufacturers. I got to hear from NAM Director Tim Gould, PLIDCO President Kim Smith, and other industry leaders at NAM’s Manufacturing Roundtable in Strongsville and talk about our critical manufacturing industry in Ohio and what Congress can do to help.

Career and technical education is one of my top priorities in Congress. To better understand the needs of American workers, I got a behind-the-scenes tour of PLIDCO, The Pipe Line Development Company, which employs about 1,000 Ohioans and manufactures pipeline leak repair and maintenance fittings that are sold worldwide.

Last week I visited the I Am Boundless campus in Medina. Boundless is Ohio’s largest provider of services for adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, and more. Thanks for having me and for talking about what Congress can do to help those with disabilities.

Discount Drug Mart is one of the largest employers in Ohio’s 7th District, operating 78 stores in 20 counties in Northeast Ohio and the surrounding areas. I visited their newest store in Parma to see how it operates and hear from Jackson Gilbride, a company pharmacist, about how Congress can address challenges facing the industry. Access to affordable medication is critical and our region is grateful to have stores like Discount Drug Mart in our backyard!

I attended a Solon Chamber of Commerce luncheon to share an update on my work in Congress and answer questions about federal economic policy. It was great to see so many Chamber members and local leaders. Local industry is vital to the success of our economy in Northeast Ohio and I look forward to continuing to advocate for policies in Congress that help our communities grow and prosper.

While in Solon, I visited the site of the City of Solon Diverging Diamond Project which will make a busy and dangerous area safer for drivers and help traffic flow better. Local leaders help me identify and advocate for critical infrastructure projects that need federal funding. I’m proud to push for Ohio tax dollars to come back home and fund projects our communities need for safety and quality of life.

Three years ago, 13 service members lost their lives at Abbey Gate in Afghanistan. These men and women embodied the values of America: Bravery, Selflessness, Dedication, and Service. I was honored to attend a remembrance ceremony in the City of Seven Hills along with American Legion Ohio Post #572 to honor these 13 heroes. Let us never forget the price they paid and commit to living lives worthy of these Heroes.

I joined Parker Novak of U.S. Global Leadership Coalition (USGLC) on a panel with Lieutenant General Castellaw, and Ambassador Kelley Currie to discuss the critical role American diplomacy, development, and defense, play in the world in times of both peace and crisis. About 50 community, business, and political leaders from Northeast Ohio attended and joined the conversation about U.S. leadership.
