The Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act provides opportunities for students and workers looking to gain skills in high-demand fields by allowing Pell Grants to support students enrolled in high-quality, short-term workforce programs that will lead to career advancement.

The Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act:

  • Helps students participate in short-term programs to move into a job quickly.
  • Creates a quality assurance system for Workforce Pell Grant programs—allowing any institution of higher education to participate as long as they meet all the requirements.
  • Guarantees that program prices are aligned with economic value, so students and taxpayers receive a positive return on investment.
  • Ensures programs provide students with relevant education and competencies necessary for employment in in-demand industries.

Simply put, a 4-year degree is not right for everyone, and our young people should know that they can lead successful careers based on technical expertise. Career and technical education programs empower students to explore exciting career options, discover their passions, and develop real-world skills that are in high demand.

I often hear from teachers and business leaders that many students are not even aware of these great alternatives to a college education. This bill seeks to establish a grant program for career and technical education schools and facilities to advocate for the value of their training programs and increase public awareness. We cannot continue to diminish the role of career and technical education in this country. Increasing awareness of these programs will help build up the next generation of the American workforce.
