Last year I voted to pass the Fiscal Responsibility Act, the largest deficit reduction bill in our nation’s history. This was a positive step towards taking control of the government’s reckless spending. I'm sad to say that we did not fully take advantage of this opportunity.
This year, Congress has had all year to pass the twelve appropriations bills that are required to fund the government responsibly. Instead, we have kicked the can down the road and set ourselves up for a mad scramble before the holidays. This has to stop.
No bill is ever perfect, but this is no way to govern. It’s time for Congress to take the right steps to reign in out-of-control spending and put our federal government back in the role of servant to the people.
