Dear Friend,

It was great to be back in Ohio last week. I had a great district work week visiting local businesses and meeting with constituents. This was a busy week in DC with a lot of important work and some great wins. Here's an update.

  • The House Science, Space, & Technology Committee held a hearing on ensuring America maintains global leadership and combats China in technological advancements. See my remarks below.
  • My colleagues and I reintroduced the Antisemitism Awareness Act to protect Jewish students on college campuses.
  • I voted for the HALT Fentanyl Act to finally crack down on this dangerous drug and save American lives.
  • The House passed the Protecting American Energy Production Act.
  • Congress is debating economic policies that could shape the future of our country. I want to know what you think. Take my survey below.

As always, stay up-to-date with my work in Washington and in our district by visiting my website and following me on Facebook, X, and Instagram.

Best wishes,

Research and investment in new, cutting-edge technologies serves as an indispensable pillar of progress – both here in the United States and across the globe. In 2022, the United States led the world in Research & Development efforts, investing nearly $886 billion, which accounts for more than a third of the world’s total spending in R&D. However, to maintain our leadership, we must confront the rising influence of our adversaries, particularly China.

Over the last two decades, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has made aggressive strides in R&D, including a staggering 14% increase from 2020 to 2021. CCP-backed national policies like Made in China 2025, Thousand Talents Plan, and the Fourteenth Five Year Plan underscore why the United States must double down on investments in science and technology. Our global leadership depends on sustained innovation and a commitment to pioneering advancements right here at home.

Antisemitism has spread like wildfire on college campuses, especially in the wake of Hamas’s ruthless attack on Israel. College students celebrate terrorists who brutally murder innocent civilians, and faculty members call Hamas’s assault "exhilarating." This abhorrent behavior underscores the clear need for federal policy to protect Jewish students on these unfriendly campuses. College campuses should be safe havens for learning, not nests of hatred.

I was proud to vote for the HALT Fentanyl Act to ensure law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to keep this dangerous drug off our streets and impose harsher penalties for drug dealers bringing fentanyl into our communities. In Ohio, illicit fentanyl was involved in almost 80% of unintentional drug overdose deaths in 2023. It’s time to crack down on fentanyl and save American lives.

The House passed H.R. 26, the Protecting American Energy Production Act, which prevents a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to protect American energy production, and expresses that states have primacy over energy production on state and private land.

American energy production through fracking leads to lower energy prices for families and workers, boosts economic growth, and improves quality of life for Americans. We must protect American energy production!
