BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY
|
This week, several water infrastructure projects important to Northeast Ohio for which I advocated were authorized by the Thomas R. Carper Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA). WRDA is biannual legislation designed to foster economic growth and preserve natural resources in local communities.
My team and I worked with local officials to advance eleven projects for consideration, of which nine were included in the bill. The projects focus principally on reducing flood and storm damage, improving navigable channels, and restoring water and wastewater systems to improve public safety and economic security.
Projects benefitting OH-07 include:
- Village of Apple Creek: Flood Control Stormwater Management
- Village of Brooklyn Heights: Stormwater Outfall Repairs
- Village of Chagrin Falls: Regional Water and Sewer System Upgrades
- Port of Cleveland: Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Strategy (CHEERS)
- City of Fairview Park: Coe Creek Dredging Project
- City of North Olmsted: Wastewater Treatment Plant
- City of Solon: Environmental and Economic Development Initiative
- City of Westlake: Marshfield Lake Dam
- Ohio Department of Natural Resources: Little Killbuck Creek Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention

SUPPORTING OUR SERVICEMEMBERS
|
This week the House passed the FY25 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which sets the policy for the United States military for the coming year.
Nothing is more important than our national security. This legislation meets the needs of our nation and those brave men and women who fight to defend us. In addition to strengthening our national security, this NDAA focuses on servicemember quality of life improvements like military housing maintenance, a pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers, and improved access to childcare. This bill also strengthens our southern border, cuts woke DEI programs, and prevents Chinese espionage. When America and our military are strong, the world is a much safer place.
Highlights of the bill include:
-
Authorizes a 14.5 percent raise for junior enlisted servicemembers and supports a 4.5 percent raise for all other servicemembers.
-
Funding for housing maintenance, oversight, and upgrades.
-
Supports the deployment of the National Guard to the southern border to combat the influx of illegal immigrants and drugs.
-
Supports military spouses by making it easier to find and maintain employment.
-
Reduces healthcare wait times and improves access to childcare.
-
Deters China and prevents CCP espionage in our research institutions, supply chains, and armed forces.
-
Combats the Biden Administration’s radical, woke ideology to restore the focus of our military on lethality by requiring merit-based promotions.
-
Permanently bans TRICARE coverage of dangerous transgender medical care for minors.
-
Enhances fiscal responsibility by cutting $31 billion in inefficient programs, Pentagon bureaucracy, and obsolete weapons.

President Biden and Washington bureaucrats' war on everyday household appliances only hurts American families and small businesses. You should be able to decide what washing machine is best for you and your family – not be forced to let the government decide for you.
That's why the House passed the Liberty in Laundry Act which prevents the Secretary of Energy and the DOE from implementing new or amended energy efficiency standards for clothes washers that are not technologically feasible and economically justified. House Republicans will continue working to protect consumer choice from government overreach and ensure families and hardworking Americans can keep their preferred appliances in their homes.
