As the House of Representatives begins the August district work period, I look forward to seeing many of you back home in Ohio. This week, the House passed another appropriations bill to strengthen our energy security, protect recreational use of public lands, and safeguard American jobs. Here's a quick update on what else we've been up to in Washington:

The Oversight Committee Held Secret Service Director Cheatle Accountable for the security failures surrounding the attempted assassination of President Trump.
I recognized the The Sunbow 57 Girls, young entrepreneurs from our district, on the House Floor.
Funding for Critical Infrastructure in Our Community was authorized in the Water Resources Development Act.
The House Agriculture Committee held a hearing titled "Reauthorizing the CFTC: Stakeholder Perspectives" to talk about how agriculture producers manage risk.

Holding Director Cheatle Accountable

The attempted assassination of former President Trump will forever be a stain on our nation’s history. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle testified before the House Oversight Committee but did not answer many of the questions asked, leaving more questions for the American people. Director Cheatle must be held accountable for the Secret Service's actions before and during the assassination attempt. With her resignation being announced on Tuesday, I am hopeful that new leadership can rebuild the culture of the Secret Service and refocus the agency on its central mission.

The House also passed a resolution to establish a task force on the attempted assassination of Donald Trump to get the American people the answers they deserve.

The Sunbow 57 Girls, Melody & Rachel Steiner, run a small business in their hometown! These bright young adults are preparing for great futures!

Critical Infrastructure in Our Community

Several water infrastructure projects important to Northeast Ohio were authorized by the 2024 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). The bill is now headed to the Senate.

I’m proud to advocate for tax dollars to come home to Northeast Ohio to fund projects that make our communities stronger. It’s a long road to getting funding, but this is a very big first step in the process.

I worked with local officials to advance eleven projects for consideration, of which nine were included in the bill. The projects focus principally on reducing flood and storm damage, improving navigable channels, and restoring water and wastewater systems to improve public safety and economic security.

Village of Brooklyn Height: Stormwater Outfall Repairs
Village of Chagrin Falls: Regional Water and Sewer System Upgrades
Port of Cleveland: Cleveland Harbor Eastern Embayment Resilience Strategy (CHEERS)
City of Fairview Park: Coe Creek Dredging Project
City of North Olmsted: Wastewater Treatment Plant
City of Solon: Environmental and Economic Development Initiative
City of Westlake: Marshfield Lake Dam
Ohio Department of Natural Resources: Little Killbuck Creek Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention
