I hope you had a great 4th of July holiday. This week, Congress got back to work on defending the integrity of elections, protecting consumer choice, and standing up for women and girls. Here's an update:

I voted for the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to require proof of United States citizenship in order to register to vote in federal elections. The message is clear: only Americans should vote in American elections.
I recognized Olmsted Falls native and Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Moon, who will represent Team USA at the Paris Olympics competing in the pole vault.
The Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed the NASA Reauthorization Act, which included my NASA Talent Exchange Program Act, to ensure American leadership in space and strengthen NASA Glenn, an economic driver in Ohio.
To preserve consumer choice, I voted to protect home appliances from burdensome and unaffordable regulations. Americans are paying enough!
Congress continued the effort to protect women and girls in schools and sports.

Safeguarding Our Elections

The House of Representatives took a major step in securing our elections. The message is simple: Americans should decide American elections. Allowing non-citizens to vote in our elections not only makes our elections less secure, but it diminishes the value of American citizenship and the rights and privileges it carries.

President Biden and some Democrats in Congress have said the SAVE Act is unnecessary because Federal law already bars non-citizens from voting. However, the truth is that under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) as it stands without the SAVE Act, states do not have the tools that they need to ensure those who are registering to vote are actually citizens. House Republicans are giving them the necessary tools.

Under the NVRA, states may not require proof of citizenship when registering voters. The SAVE Act fixes this loophole by requiring states to verify citizenship. The bill also requires states to remove non-citizens from their voter rolls and allows them no-cost access to federal databases with citizenship information to do so.

Our Future in Space

The House Science, Space, and Technology Committee passed the NASA Reauthorization Act of 2024 at a committee markup with bipartisan support. The bill provides support and direction for space exploration, including both the Artemis and Moon to Mars Programs. The bill also promotes space technology development, ensuring we are equipped with the appropriate tools and infrastructure as our lunar presence grows.

Here at home, this bill will strengthen the NASA Glenn Research Center, an economic driver in Northeast Ohio. NASA Glenn is home to important projects such as the Fission Surface Power project, which will keep the lights on during deep space travel and long-term stays on the moon, and the Communications Services project.

The bill also included my NASA Talent Exchange Program Act, which passed unanimously!

Freedom to Choose Your Fridge

The Biden administration's Department of Energy proposed standards aimed at shutting down the use of natural gas and forcing Americans to use only electric appliances regardless of cost, performance, or availability – putting an extreme Green New Deal agenda ahead of the needs of hardworking Americans.

The House passed the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act and the Refrigerator Freedom Act to protect consumer choice from government meddling.

Protecting Women & Girls

In April of this year, President Biden’s Department of Education finalized a Title IX rule that would put young women and girls at risk by allowing transgender athletes on women’s teams and in women's locker rooms and bathrooms.

Educational institutions have a duty to protect the safety of the women and girls who attend them and ensure those women have the same access to athletic and educational opportunities as men – this rule ignores those responsibilities for the sake of appealing to radical woke activists.

I voted to pass H.J. Res. 165, which reverses the Biden Administration’s rule so that schools and educational institutions can protect and uphold the safety, educational, and athletic opportunities of women and girls.
