A lot has happened in Washington in the last few weeks, and I want to give you an update on my work and talk about some of the great things we are doing for our veterans and military families in Ohio.
The House of Representatives took the first step in a responsible approach to reining in our nation’s spending by preparing for fiscal year 2025 and passing the first of 12 appropriations bills. We started with funding for Military Construction and Veterans Affairs to make sure our veterans are taken care of.
We also pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which sets the military policy for the upcoming year. One of the main focuses of this year’s bill is taking care of our servicemembers by improving quality of life, giving junior enlisteds a record pay raise, and addressing recruitment, retention, and readiness challenges.
I recognized 21 students from schools across Medina County who took the oath of enlistment in the military. I’m honored that they are my constituents.

Fully Funding the VA
The House of Representatives took the first step in a responsible approach to reining in our nation’s spending by preparing for fiscal year 2025. The bill we passed last week provides funding for Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, supporting national security and military families through military construction projects and honoring our commitments to our veterans by fully funding the VA.
This bill is the first step toward funding our government for fiscal year 2025 and avoiding an unnecessary omnibus spending bill. I hope the Democrats will negotiate with us in good faith as we continue this process and fund our government without political gimmicks.
Congress has no higher responsibility than protecting American national security. That's why I voted for an updated and effective NDAA, which sets the military policy for the upcoming year.
One of the main focuses of this year’s bill is taking care of our service members. That means improving quality of life, giving junior enlisteds a record pay raise, and addressing recruitment, retention, and readiness challenges. Of course, fully funding our national defense will also include improving efficiency, deterring our adversaries like China, and focusing our military on being the world’s strongest warfighting machine.
Recently, 21 students from schools across Medina County in the heart of my district in Ohio raised their right hands at Brunswick High School and took the oath of enlistment in the military.
These young people will gain leadership experience at 18 years old that most people will never have. They will gain the confidence to move through this world and the discipline to know the difference between right and wrong which will last a lifetime.
They are brave. They are noble. And they are our future leaders. It is honorable what they did, and I’m honored that they are my constituents. I thank them for their future service.
I Want Your Opinion!
This week the NDAA, which sets federal policy for the military, passed the House of Representatives. This bill authorizes a 19.5% pay raise for junior enlisted service members and supports a 4.5% pay raise for all other service members.
What do you think?
Is Congress doing enough to support our military service members?
