Dear Friend,

I was back in Washington for a couple of days after starting the week off in Ohio and wanted to share a few things with you.

Here’s an update.

Along with House Agriculture Committee Chairman “GT” Thompson, I hosted an Agriculture Advisory Council meeting. I am committed to advocating for policies that make sure the next Farm Bill works for both the agriculture industry and everyday consumers.
I visited the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center. I continue to be inspired as I meet with students who are preparing to enter the workforce with practical career skills.
I am proud to have helped to pass legislation that contained resources for 15 community projects in our district. All of our requested Community Projects were included in the appropriations bills passed by the House this week--a tremendous victory for Northeast Ohio!
I attended the State of the Union. As I listened to President Biden's address, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by his failure to address issues important to our communities.

Training the Next Generation of Skilled Workers at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center

Students at Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in Brecksville are hard at work honing their professional skills! Thank you to Superintendent David Mangas and Principal Michael Hall for showing me around your facility and sharing the work you are doing to grow the skilled workforce in Northeast Ohio.

Securing Resources for Important Projects in Our Communities

This week I helped to pass a package of six appropriations bills that contains resources for fifteen projects important to communities in our district. That’s money to make Northeast Ohio a safer, stronger, and better place to live. I worked closely with local officials and stakeholders to identify where these resources were most needed and best spent, and now, I look forward to ensuring the continued good stewardship of our tax dollars.

Importantly, these projects come out of funds for existing grant programs and do not add anything to our topline spending numbers. This money was already set to be spent, but now, instead of the Biden Administration spending it on its pet projects, it will be put to work right here in Ohio.

The State of the Union

I was honored to have Dave Wondolowski as my guest for the State of the Union. Dave is a community leader and strong voice for workers in Northeast Ohio serving as Executive Secretary and Business Manager of the Cleveland Building & Construction Trades Council.

There are dozens of issues for which President Biden must answer. But as I headed to listen to the President's speech, there were three in particular that I hoped he would address: inflation, the southern border, and energy prices. Unfortunately, I could not help but be disappointed.

Thanks to President Biden’s policies, inflation has risen almost 18% since he took office. Instead of sharing a vision for how he will help to make American's whole, the President tried to claim credit because inflation is “down” to 3 percent, but that just means that prices are only going up 3 percent now, compared with almost 9 percent previously. Americans are not giving him credit for “bringing prices down”—because eggs are still more expensive than they were 3 short years ago.

President Biden’s refusal to enforce our immigration laws has created an unmitigated disaster at our Southern Border. House Republicans tried to give him even stronger tools to get the job done. We passed H.R. 2—the strongest border security bill in history—and the Democrat-led Senate will not even touch it. Now, Biden is going to try to lay blame at Republicans’ feet, but the reality is the fault is all his to bear.

The President’s anti-energy policies have sent energy prices through the roof and made us and our allies more dependent on our adversaries. Ohioans want to know what he is doing to make sure we are energy-independent and that prices are affordable again. Ohioans deserve better.
