After spending the first part of the week in Ohio, I was back in Washington for a couple of days this week

Here’s an update. 

• I voted in support of a short-term stopgap funding bill. Next week, we'll work on passing appropriations bills that should contain resources for important projects in Northeast Ohio--critical infrastructure, public safety, workforce development, and more. See my full statement here or below. 

• I led 21 of my colleagues in a letter to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Representative calling attention to the mounting agriculture trade deficit impacting Ohio’s rural economies and reinforcing the need to establish a robust trade agenda and expand export opportunities. 

• Back in Ohio I visited a few great Ohio businesses. Thank you to Welser Profile North America and Fuserashi International Technologies for hosting me.

Washington’s spending has gotten out of control. Our national debt has grown to $34 trillion. Congress needs to be responsible with taxpayer money. Since last January the House of Representatives has made it a priority to rein in government spending. 

This week I voted to finally begin this process and to stop the Biden administration’s Education Department from wasting billions of taxpayer dollars. The agreement is not perfect, but shutting down the government would only make our border less secure, leave our military without pay, hang our veterans out to dry, and waste taxpayer dollars.  

You might know that I voted against the last two continuing resolutions, but this time, I'm confident that we finally have a plan to get our fiscal house in order.  

Next week, we'll work on passing appropriations bills that should contain resources for projects important to Northeast Ohio—improvements to critical infrastructure, public safety, workforce development, and more.  

It’s time to finish the process and enact policy solutions that work for Ohioans. 

This week, along with 21 of my colleagues in Congress, I wrote a letter directed to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and the U.S. Trade Representative, calling attention to the mounting agriculture trade deficit, which has nearly doubled in the last year according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The deficit has had a large impact on Ohio’s rural economies and American leadership in international agriculture trade.    

The letter reinforces the need to establish a robust trade agenda and to expand export opportunities. International trade is critical to Ohio’s agricultural producers. It bolsters our local economies by growing jobs and helps to keep the world fed, all while supporting American industry. 

On Monday I visited Welser Profile North America. During the visit, I toured the facility and learned about the steel products that Welser has been making for 11 generations. I also had the opportunity to participate in a town hall discussion with Welser’s employees where they discussed issues relating to workforce shortages, immigration, and workplace safety regulations. 

I also visited Fuserashi International Technologies (F.I.T). I met with F.I.T leadership and discussed issues that impact them such as the research and development tax credits, workforce shortages, and automation. I also toured the facility and saw the production of the small steel parts they manufacture, primarily for the automotive industry.
