Dear {{prefix}} {{lastname}},
Happy Friday!
This week marks an important turning point in Washington. With the shutdown finally behind us, Congress must refocus on governing responsibly and delivering results for the American people. That is why we will be sending the congressional stock ban to committee. This is the moment to restore trust in Congress and get back to doing the people’s business.

An End to the Government Shutdown
|
The government shutdown lasted 43 days, making it the longest in our nation’s history. During that time, millions of Americans on EBT suffered, airports faced record delays, and federal agencies were paralyzed. Democrats voted against reopening the government 15 times before finally accepting a deal nearly identical to the one they rejected in the first place.
This level of dysfunction is unacceptable. Hardworking Americans pay too much in taxes to see Washington grind to a halt. Now that the shutdown is over, it is time to get back to work! I am committed to making up for lost time for the people of Florida’s 13th District.

Banning Members from Trading Stocks
|
Now that the government has reopened, it is time to get back to work for the American people, and that starts with accountability. Last year, Democratic lawmakers’ portfolios gained 31 percent and Republicans’ 26 percent, both beating the S&P 500’s 25 percent return. Congress should not be serving its portfolio; it should be serving the people.
That is why I am a cosponsor of the Restore Trust in Congress Act, bipartisan legislation to ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependents from trading or owning stocks that conflict with their public responsibilities. Lawmakers should not be profiting off inside information that hardworking Americans will never have access to.
Over 86 percent of Americans support this effort. With the government back open, banning congressional stock trading will go to committee, and, if it is shot down or not brought up, I will bring it to the floor through a discharge petition. It is time to end congressional stock trading and restore trust in our institutions.

On Tuesday, we honored the courage and sacrifice of America’s 17 million veterans. As a veteran myself, and as the wife of a Purple Heart recipient, I know the cost of freedom.
To all who have served: thank you. Your bravery, resilience, and devotion to our nation continue to inspire us every day.
Happy Veterans Day!
