Dear {{prefix}} {{lastname}},
Happy Friday!
This week, I held the swamp accountable by filing a discharge petition to finally end congressional stock trading. To protect our national security, I also sent a letter urging the President to refederalize Washington, D.C. And amidst serious business, my team was still able to appreciate the Christmas season at the lighting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

Discharge Petition Banning Congressional Stock Trading
|
Nearly 9 in 10 Americans support banning Members of Congress from trading individual stocks, yet Congress has still failed to bring this reform to a vote. On Tuesday, I took matters into my own hands and filed a discharge petition to force action on bipartisan legislation to finally end congressional insider trading.
A discharge petition allows us to bring the bill directly to the House floor for an up-or-down vote. Already, 90 former Members of Congress have publicly urged today’s Congress to take action. In the House, 16 sitting Members have signed onto the petition so far, and support continues to grow by the day.

It's Time to Refederalize D.C.
|
After the fatal shooting of two of our National Guard members, our nation is facing a rise in radical actors who seek to destabilize us from within. As President Trump continues working to eliminate these enemy combatants, it is essential that we take decisive action to safeguard our nation’s capital.
For this reason, I sent a letter urging President Trump to reassert full federal control of Washington, D.C. No family should endure what Sarah Beckstorm’s and Andrew Wolfe’s now face; we must protect our capital from this violent scourge before more American blood is spilled.

On Thursday, I spoke in support of the Department of War’s strikes on narco-terrorist smuggling vessels in the Caribbean. America does not negotiate with terrorists—period. In 2024, over 400 residents of Pinellas County died of a drug overdose, with more than 80,000 dying of the same cause in the broader United States.
We are dealing with nothing less than a national emergency.
Fentanyl, cocaine, and worse were pouring across our borders, brought by narco-terrorist organizations like Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang. Under Pete Hegseth’s leadership, the Department of War took decisive, life-saving action to protect not only Pinellas County, but the entire nation.

Lighting the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree 🎄
|
This Tuesday, members of my staff were escorted by Rep. Nutmeg to the lighting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree—a joyful Washington tradition. Families, lawmakers, and visitors gathered on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, as the 53-foot Nevada red fir tree lit up against the winter sky. It was a beautiful reminder that, even in busy times, the spirit of Christmas still brings people together.
